About Outside the Game and author A.J. Russo

Outside the Game is an op-ed column, published by the Mount Airy Messenger, Hancock News and Emmitsburg Dispatch, which makes connections between sports and society. This blog is an opportunity for readers to respond to the opinions expressed in the column, as well as an opportunity to answer questions posed by the author. A.J. Russo, a Mt. Airy resident, received his BS at Hobart College and Master’s and Ph.D. at Roswell Park Memorial Institute. He is a professor at Mount Saint Mary’s College in Emmitsburg and the author of 10 novels and more than 30 scientific papers. He is the former head men’s lacrosse coach at RIT and Mount Saint Mary’s. His opinions do not necessarily reflect those of Mount Saint Mary’s College, the Mt. Airy Messenger, Hancock News, Emmitsburg Dispatch or WordPress. Russo’s novel, The Healer, has been critically acclaimed. His book, The Fragile Egg, was re-released in 2006 and his newest one, New Lodge Affair, was released in August 2007.
